The Cometeers

The Cometeers are an seven-piece original instrumental powerhouse from San Diego, California. Their sound is a high-energy blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, Stax-inspired horn lines, surf/fuzz guitar riffs, deep pocket bass grooves, and swinging backbeats.

Originally formed in 2022 as a soul instrumental group, The Cometeers released their self-titled debut EP in 2023. Following a few lineup changes, the band found its current form in 2025, with a mix of fresh talent and seasoned veterans from the San Diego music scene. Their musical influences span decades and continents, drawing from artists like Led Zeppelin, James Brown and the JB Horns, Fela Kuti, Poncho Sanchez, and Los Destellos.

Their 2025 singles—“Lucero,” “Calavera,” and “Get Goin’”—demonstrate that The Cometeers continue to evolve, pushing heavy Afro-Cuban rhythms to the forefront, while infusing the music with horn stabs and tight riffs.  Their recent EP, "Live from Barn Time," was recorded live to 2" inch tape (and videotaped for YouTube.) The performance showcases the tight syncopation, fiery solos and infectious energy that one can expect at a Cometeers show.

With a focus on bold hooks and a shifting palette of tempos and styles, The Cometeers have one goal: to keep the crowd moving.
